- W1998045276 abstract "The article presents the history of the publishing market for young readers under Russian Partition in the nineteenth and in the early twentieth-centuries. The development of this part of publishing movement was introduced in the context of social, literary and educational conditioning, emphasizing the impact of the nineteenth-century progress in editing and techniques of illustrations’ reproduction. The development of children’s literature led from rare books published individually by contemporary authors (Klementyna Tańska, Stanisław Jachowicz) in the twenties of nineteenth-century to large publishing houses accomplishing ambitious plans (Gebethner and Wolff, Michał Arct). In the early nineteenth-century some ideas of the book’s revival coming to Poland from Western Europe positively influenced the editing of children’s literature. The people who exceptionally contributed to the publishing of beautiful editions for the youngest readers were Janina and Jakub Mortkowicz." @default.
