- W1998185204 abstract "Abstract There are 8 to 10 median neurosecretory cells of type A on each side of the intercerebralis. These median neurosecretory cells show secretory activity. There are two lateral cells which do not show any cyclic activity. The corpus cardiacum consists of two lobes which are free in the posterior side but are united in the anterior where they surround the aorta. There is a separate hypocerebral ganglion. Some of the axons of N.C.C. I and N.C.C. II, which innervate the corpus cardiacum, enter the corpus allatum. Some neurosecretory material is brought into the corpus allatum where it either functions as a precursor or as a stimulant and activates the corpus allatum. The cells of the corpus allatum are small, mostly of the same type, and show different levels of activity. Discharge of neurosecretory material in the aorta stimulates protein metabolism and ovarian development, and the oocyte descends into the vitellarium. Some neurosecretory material also reaches the corpus allatum and it functions either as a precursor or as a stimulant and activates the corpus allatum which then becomes enlarged. Its modified secretion further initiates ovarian development." @default.
