• W1998479525 abstract "Aim: To analyze the degree of therapeutic inertia in hypertensive patients younger than 55 years after first month of treatment, in a primary care population. Methods: This is a cross sectional, national, multicenter study. Data were collected from 1.791 patients with antihypertensive treatment one month before the inclusion in OPENJOVEN study. The decision of the drug treatment by the researcher according to blood pressure (BP) control is analyzed. Results: The mean age of patients was 47,9 ± 6,1 years, 64% were male. The BP of the whole group was 143,1 ± 38,5 / 87,5 ± 25 mmHg. 74,4% (1.402) of these patients had BP>140/90 mmHg after 1 month of antihypertensive therapy, 75% (n = 1.052) with monotherapy, and 25% (n = 350) in a combination therapy. 75% of the not controlled patients remain the same treatment and same doses, 16% increase the dose or change the treatment, 4,3% increase the treatment and in 4,3% reduces the treatment. In patients with single-drug therapy (n = 1.052) and with BP >140/90, the treatment is removed in 0,7%, 78.4% maintain the same treatment and dose, 15,2% increase the dose or change the treatment and 5,7% change from monotherapy to a combination therapy. In patients who initiated with dual therapy (n = 50) and did not reach the control of arterial hypertension in the 1 month visit, the doctor's attitude was: 15,1% of the patients were changed from double to monotherapy, 65,1% remained with the same treatment and dose, 19,7% modify the dose or withdraw treatment. In any case a third drug was associated. Conclusions: The pharmacological inertia is very high with these young patients (79%). Adding a second drug in patients with monotherapy occurs only in 5,7% of the non-controlled hypertensive. No patient uncontrolled with double therapy was prescribed the third antihypertensive drug." @default.
