As expected theoretically when electron correlations are taken into account, a strong decrease with volume of the effective Stoner parameter is inferred from magnetostriction data for transition-metal alloys. This decrease is consistent with the small size of ground-state magnetovolume deduced for Cr from thermal expansion measurements, which support a picture of the ordered moments in Cr collapsing above the Neel temperature as low-energy fluctuations decay rapidly with temperature. There is also some evidence for higher-energy paramagnetic fluctuations that increase with temperature, as predicted theoretically and observed very recently by neutron scattering in Cr95V5." @default.
