- W1998849135 abstract "1.1. The slug moth prepupae, Monema flavescens, have a frost-resistant capacity. The prepupae of Scopelodes venosa, closely related to the former, has no capacity for frost resistance.2.2. In the frost-resistant stage, glycerol uptake was the most remarkable. In the non-frost-resistant stage, it was small. In the prepupae reared at 10°C, glycerol uptake was (remarkably) found. In the prepupae reared at 20°C, it was small. In the glycerolated prepupae, glycerol uptake was much the same as the control. Making a comparison between M. flavescens and S. venosa, glycerol uptake was always much larger in the former than the latter. Furthermore, the sheath of the neuroendocrine system in M. flavescens was three to five times thicker than that of S. venosa.3.3. It was suggested that the remarkable uptake of glycerol and the thick sheath in the neuroendocrine system are necessary to enhance the frost-resistant capacity." @default.
