- W1999186319 abstract "Female rats received a silk thread inserted in the cervical region of the left uterine horn and were subjected to subtotal tubectomy uterine trauma or left as controls. The uterine horn bearing the thread was significantly (p less than .001) heavier than the control horn and the thread was capable of preventing pregnancy within 5 days after insertion. Trauma of the control horn resulted in a pronounced decidual cell response; trauma to the thread-bearing horn also produced a decidual response with its severity decreasing with the length of time the thread was in utero. As the decidual response decreased the weight of the intact thread-bearing horn increased. It is suggested that a progressive accumulation of noncellular material caused by an intrauterine thread interferes with decidual cell formation." @default.
