- W1999462612 abstract "Desalination studies of low flux cellulose acetate membranes heat treated in water or in glycerine-water mixtures revealed that the membrane characteristics depend on the chemical nature of the treatment medium and its temperature. Studies were also performed on membranes heated in air, i.e. in absence of a plasticizer, in order to understand and explain the behavior shown by membranes heat treated in water or in glycerine-water mixtures. The water uptake and the effect of quenching temperature on the desalination characteristics of these membranes were also studied. The results, in all cases, showed consistent trends. Plausible explanations based on thermodynamics and other reported observations were formulated to account for the trends. Apparently, the multiple secondary transitions of cellulose acetate seem to justify the experimental observations. These formulations were also consistent with the results of this work." @default.
