- W1999534037 abstract "In recent years, stem cells have been used for various applications, including tissue engineering (TE). The main purpose of this study is to elucidate the structure of scaffold oriented application with Stem cells. The use of scaffolding with stem cells in studies of TE is advantageous. In this presentation, we present the results of basic experiments evaluating the capture rate of rat mesenchymal stem cells (RMSC) by microporous fibrous scaffolds. Two types of microporous fibrous scaffold tubes (internal diameter of 1.5 mm, length of 10 cm) were fabricated by a spray technique from polyurethane: Scaffold47, porosity of 47% and Scaffold59, porosity of 59%. Preparations of RMSC suspended in saline were adjusted to 1.25 × 105 cells/ml and injected into the scaffold tubes. The liquid passed through the wall of scaffold tube while the cells were captured by the porous scaffold. The capture rate was defined as the ratio between numbers of cells initially and captured cells. The capture number (rate) of RMSC was 9.32 × 104 (25.4%) on Scaffold47 and 8.75 × 104 (30.0%) on Scaffold59. The higher porosity scaffold had a higher capture rate than lower porosity scaffold within the narrow range of conditions tested here. The results of this study show that low porosity translates into fewer pores for capturing cells and consequently a lower capture rate. In conclusion, capture rate is related to porosity as well as pore size, and further investigation is needed to determine optimal porosity." @default.
