The reaction is present if the infant raises his head and arches his back with the concavity upwards. A subsidiary part of the response is partial extension of the lower limbs at the hip-joints. The reaction may be elicited in normal infants from the age of about 3 months onwards, is present in most infants in the second six months of life, and becomes increasingly difficult to evoke after the age of one year. Absence of the response in infants over the age of 3 months is seen in association with motor weakness, as in cerebral palsy, motor neurone disease and mental retardation. The Landau reaction represents the combined effects of labyrinthine, neck and visual reactions. RÉSUMÉ La réaction de Landau La réaction de Landau est provoqué lorsque le nourrisson, mis sur le ventre, est maintenu horizontalement en l'air. Il y a réflexe lorsque l'enfant lève la tête et cambre le dos selon une courbe concave vers le haut. Subsidiairement, il se manifeste dans l'extension partielle des membres inférieurs au niveau de l'articulation des hanches. La réaction peut être provoqué chez les nourrissons normaux à partir du troisième mois environ. Elle se trouve chez la plupart des nourrissons agés de six mois à un an, et devient de plus en plus difficile à obtenir au-delà d'un an. L'absence de réponse chez les nourrissons agés de plus de trois mois se trouve associée à une faiblesse motrice, comme dans la maladie du neurone moteur dans l'infirmité motrice certbrale, et dans l'arriération mentale. La réaction de Landau est dûà l'effet combiné des réactions labyrinthiques, du cou et de la vision. Die Reaktion ist vorhanden, wenn das Kind den Kopf hebt und den Riicken, mit einer Hohlrundung nach oben, biegt. Ein subsidiarer Teil der Antwort besteht aus Ausstreckung der unteren Glieder in der Gegend des Hiiftengelenks. Die Reaktion kann bei normalen Sauglingen ungefahr vom dritten Monat ab ausgelost werden. Sie ist bei den meisten Sauglingen zwischen sechs Monaten und einem Jahr vorhanden und ist nach dem ersten Lebensjahr immer schwerer auszulosen. Fehlen der Antwort bei Sauglingen uber drei Monaten findet man in Verbindung mit motorischer Schwache wie z.B. inzerebrallahmung, der Krankheit des motorischen Neuronen und bei geistigen Defektzustanden.
