- W1999590885 abstract "Taking “discrimination” to mean the comparative dissociation rates observed in identical experiments on already separated isotopes. and “enrichment” to refer to the relative constitution of the dissociated product from an isotopic mixture, the following observations are made for the UO2(hfacac)2 compounds described in part I: (i) Both for ligand detachment and for permanent dissociation, the experimental frequency response is in agreement with expectations; this leads one to the prediction that, for 235U-238U, the discrmination will be ≈2.0. For ligand detachment it is assumed that an enrichment of this order is attainable. (ii) For permanent dissociation, we have found that discrimination ≈2 is experirmentally observed. (iii) The phenomena of two-laser dissociation confirm the ligand-detachment hypothesis and slightly improve the discrimination. (iv) An extensive series of uranium enrichment experiments has indicated that enrichment was <1.10 under a wide range of conditions. (v) For mixed oxygen isotopes, where the isotopic variants are completely separated in excitation, the enrichment nevertheless remains low, even under conditions of very low sample pressure in a high bath pressure. (vi) These oxygen-isotope data cannot be explained by assuming that the reaction leading to permanent dissociation is unimolecular and a “chain reaction” is suggested." @default.
