- W1999800518 abstract "CVS is the method of choice for obtaining fetal tissue for prenatal diagnosis in the first trimester of pregnancy. We compared the safety and the obstetrics outcomes of two different techniques:discontinuous vs continous negative pression aspiration. We retrospectively reviewed charts of all CVS performed in our centre in the last 6 years. From 2007 to 2010 CVS was performed using a standard discontinuous negative pression aspiration technique (group A); since 2011 we started to perform CVS with a a continuous negative pressure vacutainer procedure (group B). Procedure details (gestational age at the procedure, need of needle reinsertion, mean amount of villli obtained, number of successful culture) and obstetrical and fetal outcomes (complications related to the procedure, fetal anomalies, intrauterine fetal demise, intrauterine growth restriction) were compared between the two groups. Statistical analysis was performed with chi-square,Fisher's and T-test. In the study period 242 CVS were performed: 114 (47%) group A and 128 (53 %) group B. The 2 groups were comparable for maternal age, number of needle insertions requested and gestational age at the time of the procedure. Vacutainer tecnique showed a statistically significant higher amount of chorionic villi obtained (11,2 mg vs 20,8 mg;p <0.001) and an higher percentage of complete results (63%vs 97%;p <0.001). There were just 2 cases of fetal loss (0,8 %), both after the classic technique. No major obstetrical complications such as antenatal vaginal bleeding, PPROM, intrauterine infections were recorded in both groups. No differences were found in the incidence of hypertensive pregnancy disorders, gestational age at delivery, fetal weight at birth and number of small for gestational age fetuses between the two groups. CVS performed with vacutainer procedure is as safe as the traditional technique, it's easier to perform and gives an higher amount of villi sampled and an increased number of complete results.Tabled 1 Open table in a new tab" @default.
