- W2000210841 abstract "Abstract On-line determination of the sulphur content of lead sinter feed is required to optimise lead sinter machine performance. A typical lead sinter operation involves the agglomeration of finely divided ore particles and the removal of sulphur to prepare feed for the lead blast furnace. Undersized product is returned to the sinter feed. Typical sinter plant feed contains about 6–7 wt% S, 40 wt% Pb, 6 wt% Zn and 12 wt% Fe. A nuclear method for the analysis of sulphur in lead sinter has been devised, based on the measurement of the 2.23 MeV inelastic scatter γ-ray from sulphur in the presence of the more prominent 2.62 MeV inelastic scatter γ-ray from lead. Measurements carried out at the Lucas Heights Research Laboratories on 32 bulk lead sinter samples (about 100 kg each) from Mount Isa Mines Limited have shown that neutron inelastic scattering can be used to determine sulphur, lead, zinc, and iron in lead sinter feed to within about 0.3, 0.85, 0.15 and 0.3 wt% respectively.
