Les faibles valeurs des densités de spin calculées et les valeurs élevées des couplages à longue distance indiquent une délocalisation de l'électron célibataire qui pourrait être due à une structure partiellement insaturée de ces molécules. The E.S.R. spectra of two new bicyclic hydrocarbon radicals have been studied. The main features are: 1. (i)long-range a γ couplings still greater than in bicyclo[2,2,2]octane (6·3 and 15·1 gauss);2. (ii)inequivalence of the two β methyl proton coupling constants a β CH2 ;3. (iii)a α H coupling constants close to the usual hydrocarbon radicals. These results may be accounted for by a π-type radical (unpaired electron in a pure pz orbital of the unsaturated carbon atom) slightly twisted around the C1C4 axis of the molecule. The rather low spin density on the trigonal carbon atom and the high value of the long-range coupling constants may be due to a partly unsaturated structure of these molecules, allowing some delocalization of the unpaired electron." @default.
