In the fully hydrated crystals distortion of the (Cr(H2O)6)3+ complex is found to increase with increasing Si/Al ratio. Cation migration on dehydration of the Cr-Y and Cr-L samples is found. For all three samples NH3 was found to be a better ligand than H2O for extracting the cations from their coordination with the framework. Exposure of the samples outgassed at 673 K to the atmosphere results in the oxidation of Cr3+ to give the CrO42− and CrO43− species without lattice collapse. The prior presence of NH3 prevents this oxidation. An explanation for the stabilization of these oxidized species within the zeolitic lattice is offered." @default.
