- W2000271421 abstract "The focus in human-computer interaction design is on the development of user-centred systems. Diversification of user groups and penetration of computers in new professional fields did change requirements for interfaces. Traditional methodologies appear to be inadequate to prevent different kinds of user problems. Moreover, most problems occur when systems are already finalized and introduced. Their use for longer periods have unanticipated influences on tasks and jobs concerned. Alternative approaches based on task allocation, rapid prototyping and iterative design lead to better results. In this paper, we discuss the importance of an approach that enables us to build systems that are adaptable to the differences of individual users as well as to changes through time of a system's functionality and the task allocation. We identify and discuss two ways to improve the task allocation: the possibility to design and develop flexible and adaptable interfaces; and the possibilty to design modular and extendible systems." @default.
