- W2000293361 abstract "Eu3+ complexes of the following macrocyclic chelating ligands have been characterized using Eu(III) luminescence spectroscopy: 1-oxa-4,7,13-triazacyclododecane-N,N′,N″-triacetic acid (12-N3O) 1,7-dioxa-4,10,13-triazacyclopentadenacene-triacetic acid (15-N3O2) and 1,7,13-trioxa-4,10,16, triazacyclooctadecane-4,10,16-triazacyclooctadecane-N,N′,N″-triacetic acid (18-N3O3). All these ligands form 1:1 metal complexes with Eu3+. The formation constants of the metal chelates are found to be a function of the ring size and number of coordinating sites of the ligands. The number of water molecules determined by experiments is 2 for Eu(12-N3O), 1 for Eu(15-N3O2) and 0 for the predominant isomer of Eu(18-N3O3). These results provide direct evidence that ether oxygen atoms participate in the binding. In addition, the variation of formation constants for Ln3+ ions across the series was determined for 15-N3O2 via competition experiments." @default.
