- W2000295235 abstract "The interaction of four acridine compounds with strandin has been studied, with special attention being directed to acriflavine. In all cases fluorescence quenching by strandin occurs, the nature of the quenching curve depending on the dye involved. The fluorescence quenching of these compounds by strandin is accompanied by shifts in the visible region of the spectrum. Equilibrium dialysis indicates that acriflavine is strongly bound to strandin. The fluorescence quenching of acriflavine by strandin is subject to a number of physicochemical factors, i.e., ratio of dye to strandin, temperature, pH, organic solvents, and the presence of cationic materials. These factors are the same as those which affect the metachromasy of the strandin-toluidine blue O system. In the case of the metal salts, the observed repression of fluorescence quenching was found to be a function of the valence of the cationic component. In the case of three primary alcohols studied, repression was found to be a function of the chain length. A mechanism involving the formation of aggregates between dye molecules and strandin micelles has been proposed to account for the results obtained." @default.
