PET/CT system has potential to revolutionize the use of PET in nuclear medicine and that can probably make a significant impact on CT imaging practice in radiology too. The reason for this is the speed, convenience, and accuracy with which such a combined system can produce a fused image having co-registered functional and anatomical components, permitting the physician to evaluate both types of information together in one view of the body. In the case of nuclear medicine, the main benefit of PET/CT is the ability to accurately localize regions of high tracer uptake, for instance, to locate the primary tumor corresponding to a poorly differentiated metastasis in the head and neck. Though it already seems clear that PET/CT can have a major impact on health care in oncology, there are some drawbacks to PET/CT systems. This includes higher initial capital investment required compared to a dedicated PET machine and the larger footprint, requiring more floor space for installation.</ce:simple-para></ce:abstract-sec></ce:abstract></dm:abstracts>" @default.
