After 2 h an increase was induced in the level of ATP + ADP, glucose-1,6-P2 and 2,3-P2-glycerate. At the same time glycerol + glycerol-1-P production and specific Pi incroporation were increased. 5. 5. The influence of the following inhibitors of carbohydrate metabolism on the stimulation by phytohaegmagglutinin was measured: monoiodoacetic acid, NaF, 2-deoxyglucose and KCN. In the presence of monoiodoacetic acid or NaF, phytohaemagglutinin was not able to exercise its action but in the presence of 2-deoxyglucose or KCN, phytohaemagglutinin wasa able to influence several metabolic parameters. 6. 6. The mechanism of action of 2-deoxyglucose is discussed. 7. 7. It is concluded that in vitro phytohaemagglutinin begins with the stimulation of energy consuming processes.
