- W2000382356 abstract "Small-angle neutron-scattering experiments have been carried out on dilute solutions of deuterated 1,1,3,3-tetramethylurea (D-TMU) in CS2 at three different temperatures (20, 30, 40 °C) in the mole fraction range 0.02−0.07. The scattering curves of the solutions show that besides monomers D-TMU dimers are also present in the solution. The radius of gyration of the dimers indicates a structure in which the D-TMU molecules are separated by two CS2 molecules. In contrast to aqueous solutions, the forward scattering intensities of the monomers and dimers do not exhibit any temperature dependence. Moreover, whereas in the aqueous solution of TMU the hydrophobic interaction increases with increasing temperature, the second osmotic virial coefficient obtained from the concentration dependence of the forward scattering intensities in the CS2 solution is temperature independent. Its value (−134 cm3/mol) suggests that there are sizable attractive interactions between the D-TMU molecules in the CS2 solvent leading partly to dimer formation." @default.
