- W2000400995 abstract "The electron impact excitation of a molecule located inside a dielectric medium is theoretically studied. Electronic excitation of an ${mathrm{O}}_{2}$ molecule embedded in pieces of a Ne fcc crystal of variable size is calculated. The Ne medium is described using a microscopic model. The structures that appear in the energy dependence of the inelastic scattering probabilities are related to the electronic properties of the host medium. They are assigned either to the bulk medium electronic properties or to quantization effects in the finite size cluster. In the present case, the electron impact excitation probability is shown to directly reflect the host medium density of electronic states." @default.
