- W200046307 abstract "This paper reports on three main plant growth regulators presently used or shortly to be used in rice cultivation in Japan. Since 1961, mechanical transplanting methods for rice cultivation, which require nursery boxes for producing the seedlings, have been widely developed in Japan. Rice seedlings grown in nursery boxes are apt to be susceptible to soil-borne diseases and physiological damping-off (Murenae), because of the special and densely populated cultivation. The application of hymexazol (3-hydroxy-5-methylisoxazole) to the nursery boxes has a remarkable effect on the control of these harmful phenomena. Meanwhile, anti-lodging agents are needed to adopt to mechanical harvesting as well as to obtain a high yield and a good quality of rice in Japan. Although many anti-lodging agents have been tested, none of them has given satisfactory results except IBP (O,O-diisopropyl-S-benzyl thiophosphate), a rice blast fungicide. IBP has preventive effects for lodging of rice by shortening internodes without decreasing yields. In the direct sowing method of rice cultivation in sumberged fields, other problems must be recognized such as low germination, possible floating of seedlings and of lodging due to poor roots. For coated seeds the use of calcium peroxide, which release oxygen slowly in submerged soil, was found to be very effective in promoting emergence and establishment of rice seedlings by direct sowing in submerged field conditions." @default.
