- W2000512873 abstract "Abstract An electrostatic discharge is well known to be a source of electromagnetic noise that causes malfunctions of sophisticated electronic components, circuits and devices. Many studies have been made on electromagnetic noise and incoherent waves during electrostatic discharges in an attempt to prevent electromagnetic interference in electronic environments. On the other hand, the electrostatic field around charged materials fluctuates transiently only when discharges occur, and this fluctuation of the electrostatic field behaves as a noise source since it induces an electrical transient in components or circuits with high impedance. However, the fluctuation of the electrostatic field during discharges has hardly been investigated. Theoretical and experimental studies were made on the transient fluctuation of the electrostatic field, and it became clear that malfunctions of electronic circuits terminated with high impedance were caused by the transient fluctuation of the electrostatic field during discharges. Results obtained from analyses and experiments are presented in this paper." @default.
