- W2000519757 abstract "Ligand field and charge-transfer spectra have been recorded for the species formed when cupric bromide is dissolved in molten, large cation, quaternary ammonium and phosphonium bromides and cesium bromide. The reversible reaction CuBr42− + Br− ⇌ CuBr42− + Br. could at times be followed spectrophotometrically and ΔH was calculated as −9 ± 1 kcal mole−1. The appearance of the ligand field band at 7600 cm−1, the lowest yet recorded for a tetrabromocoper(II) species, gives evidence for tetrahedral, or mildly distorted tetrahedral, CuBr42− in these melts, rather rather a species with D2d symmetry. The presence, and tetrahedral symmetry, of CuBr43− is inferred. Certain inconsistencies in earlier attempts to identify and calculate the various charge-transfer bands are noted and suggestions made for improved calculations." @default.
