- W2000520263 abstract "An experimental study of the ignition and combustion of uncoated and 0.75% Mg-coated boron particles was performed in the post-flame region of a flat-flame burner at atmospheric pressure. In the post-flame region, gas temperatures ranged from 1772 to 1993 K, and mole fractions of oxygen ranged from 12.6% to 27.7%. The uncoated and Mg-coated particles all have nominal diameters of 2−3 μm, and the average thickness of the Mg coating is 6 nm. Single particle combustion times and particle velocity during ignition and combustion were measured. Using a specially designed optical and electronic control system, particle burning phenomena and trajectory were clearly observed. Results indicated that the lengths of ignition delay zone (Di) and first-stage combustion times (t1) of the Mg-coated boron particles were slightly shorter than those of uncoated boron particles. The second-stage combustion times (t2) and total burning time (tb) were found to be decreased with increasing flame temperature or oxygen mole fraction for both uncoated and 0.75% Mg-coated boron particles." @default.
