- W2000552024 abstract "Three materials—actinomycin D, mitomycin C, and the dialyzed albumin-globulin fraction of homologous adult liver (Markert and Ursprung, 1963)—were shown to have essentially identical developmental effects following microinjection into Rana pipiens zygotes. These effects included late blastular arrest as the most striking and characteristic effect, but also included gastrular arrest at lower doses. Although total developmental arrest before late blastula was never produced by any of these materials, all three did produce preblastular effects in the form of partial cleavage, accompanied by late blastular arrest of the cleaved portion of the embryos. The percentage of such partial blastulae, as well as the fraction of the embryonic surface uncleaved, increased progressively with increasing dose. Some two dozen other materials (drugs, enzymes, etc.) were carefully screened and showed no consistently reproducible developmental effects, with the exception of ribonuclease, two other enzyme preparations, and streptomycin. These four all produced approximately the same curious group of anomalies reflecting various forms of interference with cleavage." @default.
