- W2000558106 abstract "Different carbohydrates caused catabolite repression in a strain of Bacillus cereus isolated from an anaerobic digester. The phenomenon affected the activity levels of an extracellular and certain intracellular enzymes. Of the various carbohydrates tested, glucose showed the most pronounced repression of all the enzyme activities assayed, while galactose exhibited little repression on the synthesis of the various enzymes. Although fructose and starch repressed the synthesis of pyruvate kinase, lactate dehydrogenase and glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, they stimulated the synthesis of protease and phosphoglucose isomerase. The synthesis of malate dehydrogenase and 6-phosphofructokinase was in some cases repressed but stimulated in others. It is postulated that catabolite repression may be caused in more than one way. The importance of catabolite repression in the stabilization of organic industrial wastes is discussed." @default.
