- W2000563142 abstract "The dependence of electronic conductivity upon conjugation length (L) is calculated for heavily-doped conducting polymers for which all chains are equivalent and interruptions in conjugation on neighboring chains are uncorrelated. If interchain hopping determines both σ1, the chain-direction conductivity, and σ2, an orthogonal conductivity, then the calculated electrical anisotropy is σ1σ2 = L26d2F, where d is the interchain separation in the hopping direction and F is a geometric factor of order unity. This L2 dependence contrasts with the linear dependence on L for the case where interchain, intersegment hopping dominates chain-direction conductivity. The electronic conductivity, as well as the intersegment carrier hopping frequency, is predicted to increase with both increasing conjugation length and increasing poly-dispersity in conjugation length distribution. The calculated functional dependence of conductivity on conjugation length is in good agreement with observations for iodine-doped polyacetylene and potassium-doped poly (p-phenylene)." @default.
