- W2000593792 abstract "A clinical study was conducted with 6 women volunteers to ascertain the effect of sequential OCs (oral contraceptives) on glucose tolerance. A sequential treatment of ethinylestradiol and megestrol acetate was used for the study. The glucose-disappearance rate was expressed as K-values i.e. percentage decline of blood-glucose per minute. There was considerable variability in the K-values during the normal menstrual cycle but the variability did not correlate to the phase of the cycle. Treatment with the sequential OCs caused a decrease in glucose tolerance during the estrogen phase followed by a slight improvement during the following combined phase. Results of the study indicate that women with known abnormalities of glucose tolerance and those with a family history of diabetes should not be given these drugs." @default.
