- W2000646868 abstract "Abstract 1. 1. Ejaculated spermatozoa, washed essentially free of seminal plasma, and washed epididymal spermatozoa lost little or no cellular phospholipides when aerobically incubated without added substrate. 2. 2. Lecithin added to washed spermatozoa stimulated endogenous oxygen uptake and prolonged motility of the cells. A portion of the observed oxygen increase was probably from oxidation of impurities in some lecithin preparations. 3. 3. The concentration of lecithin necessary to effect maximum stimulation of oxygen uptake far exceeded the solubility of lecithin. 4. 4. The “oxidation” of “pure” C 14 -labeled lecithin by washed epididymal spermatozoa was only 6.6 per cent of the increased oxidation caused by the addition of lecithin. 5. 5. The data presented indicate that bovine spermatozoa do not have the ability to oxidize phospholipides to any great extent." @default.
