The latter two tests yielded measures of verbal and nonverbal cerebral dominance, respectively. Contrary to earlier reports, not all left-handers were poorer than right-handers on spatial tasks. Compared to males, females showed poorer spatial ability and a higher incidence of right-field superiority on the dot enumeration test, suggesting that left-hemisphere mediation of nonverbal ability may be disadvantageous.Des sujets normaux, gauchers et droitiers, des deux sexes avaient à accomplir deux tâches visuospatiales de même qu'un test dichotique verbal et un test tachistoscopique d'énumération de points. Ces deux derniers tests permettaient de mesurer respectivement la dominance cérébrale, verbale et non verbale. En opposition avec des travaux antérieurs, tous les gauchers n'etaient pas inférieurs aux droitiers sur les tâches spatiales mais, seulement parmi ces gauchers ceux avec des scores supérieurs à l'oreille gauche au test dichotique (c'est-à-dire chez ceux pour qui on peut présumer une représentation hémisphérique droite du langage). Cependant, les effets de compétition entre fonctions, verbale et non verbale, sous-tendues par le même hémisphére ne rendent pas compte adéquatement de ces déficits spatiaux. Comparées aux sujets musculins, les femmes avaient une capacité spatiale moins bonne et une plus grande incidence de supériorité du champ droit dans le test d'énumération de points.
