On a examiné la proposition selon laquelle le jugement comparatif de nombres résulte de la transformation à l'aide de l'imagerie d'une comparaison symbolique en un jugement perceptif. On a utilisé une épreuve dans laquelle des paires de chiffres arabes étaient montrées soit dans le champ visuel droit soit dans le champ visuel gauche. Les sujets devaient en appuyant sur un bouton décider quel nombre était le plus grand. Les temps de réaction étaient plus rapides dans le champ visuel droit bien qu'il y ait un effet de la main utilisée et une interaction entre main et champ visuel. On interprète ces résultats 1° comme n'apportant aucun argument en faveur de l'hypothèse de l'imagerie; 2° comme un argument en faveur d'un traitement unilatéral opposé à un traitement bilatéral; 3° comme s'accordant aussi avec la proposition que la manipulation des codes linguistiques sous-tend les jugements de comparaison de nombres. Die These, daβ die vergleichende Beurteilung von Zahlen von einem Symbol-Vergleich in ein wahrnehmendes Urteil über den Gebrauch von Bildern transformiert wird, wurde mit Hilfe einer Aufgabe untersucht, in welcher Paare von arabischen Ziffern entweder im linken oder rechten Gesichtsfeld gezeigt wurden und Probanden durch Hebeldruck entscheiden muβten, welche Zahl numerisch gröβer war. Die Reaktionszeit war schneller für das rechte Gesichsfeld, obwohl dort Effekte der Hand und eine Interaktion zwischen Hand und Gesichtsfeld auftraten. Diese Ergebnisse werden so interpretiert, daβ sie 1. keine Unterstützung für die Bildhypothese liefern; 2., daβ sie Befunde liefern die vereinbar mit unilateraler im Gegensatz zu bilateraler Verarbeitung stehen und 3., daβ sie Befunde liefern, die konsistent sind mit dem Vorschlag, daβ die Handhabung von linguistischen Codes der vergleichenden Beurteilung von Zahlen unterliegt." @default.
