- W2000767708 abstract "Follicles were collected from animals at various times following parturition and during the estrous cycle for comparison of a number of biochemical parameters. Receptors for LH and FSH in the granulosal layer and LH receptors in the thecal layer were quantified separately in large follicles (>5 mm diameter). The levels of estradiol-17β, androstenedione, testosterone and progesterone were also measured in follicular fluid of large follicles. In pools of small follicles (<5 mm diameter) from individual cows, receptors for LH and FSH were quantified. No dramatic differences were noted in concentrations of LH and FSH receptors in large or small follicles. The levels of estradiol-17β, androstenedione and testosterone were considerably higher in follicles collected from cows on Days 19, 20 and 21 postestrus than in follicles collected from cows on Days 1 and 6 postestrus or Days 15, 30 or 45 postpartum. These data indicate that follicles developing during postpartum anestrus are similar to follicles that develop during the luteal phase of the cycle and that ovarian capacity is not a limiting factor in postpartum anestrus." @default.
