Physical properties and water take-up at room and elevated temperatures show coupling agents can produce a modified resin in the vicinity of the interface. An additional improvement in physical properties of a particulate composite system can be achieved by the addition of an innerlayer in addition to the coupler. The innerlayer extends the region of modified resin. Fracture surfaces show the break at the glass-resin interface with debonding when poor adhesion exists; however, with improved adhesion fracture occurs deep in the matrix resin when coupler is capable of forming covalent bonding with epoxy resin or curing agent." @default.
