• W2000877024 abstract "OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to assess the relationship between embryo morphology on day-3 and day-5 and chromosomal euploidy in different PGD indications for aneuploidy screening. DESIGN: A retrospective study of 190 PGD cycles was performed in IVI Barcelona between October 2004 and April 2008. PGD indications included in this study were: advanced maternal age (AMA; ≥ 40 years old), recurrent miscarriage (RM; ≥ 2 miscarriages), implantation failure (IF; ≥ 2 IVF failed attempts) and male factor (MF; abnormal fluorescence in situ hybridization- FISH- in spermatozoa or testicular meiotic abnormalities). MATERIALS AND METHODS: For every cycle, the two best quality embryos on day-3 and day-5 were pre-selected and their correlation with chromosomal euploidy was registered. In case the chosen embryos were abnormal, data about their chromosomal abnormalities were also collected. Embryo biopsy was performed on day-3 and embryo replacement took place on day-5. Chromosomes included in FISH analyses were 13, 15, 16, 18, 21, 22, X and Y and no result rescue was performed when needed. Even if it remains insufficient, this correlation increases when embryos are selected on day-5 in these indications. In IF and MF, there is a positive relationship between embryo morphology and chromosomal normalcy when selecting embryos on day-3. Monosomies are the most frequently encountered aneuploidies in all indications. The occurrence of trisomies, aneuploidies that are of greatest concern, do not decrease from day-3 to day-5 in none of the four PGD indications." @default.
