- W2000893629 abstract "The technique of threshold tracking to test axonal excitability gives information about nodal and internodal ion channel function. We aimed to investigate variability of the motor excitability measurements in healthy controls, taking into account age, gender, body mass index (BMI) and small changes in skin temperature. We examined the left median nerve of 47 healthy controls using the automated threshold-tacking program, QTRAC. Statistical multiple regression analysis was applied to test relationship between nerve excitability measurements and subject variables. Comparisons between genders did not find any significant difference (P > 0.2 for all comparisons). Multiple regression analysis showed that motor amplitude decreases with age and temperature, stimulus-response slope decreases with age and BMI, and that accommodation half-time decrease with age and temperature. The changes related to demographic features on TRONDE protocol parameters are small and less important than in conventional nerve conduction studies. Nonetheless, our results underscore the relevance of careful temperature control, and indicate that interpretation of stimulus-response slope and accommodation half-time should take into account age and BMI. In contrast, gender is not of major relevance to axonal threshold findings in motor nerves. La technique dite de threshold tracking fournit des informations sur la fonction nodale et internodale de la membrane axonale. Notre étude a porté sur la variabilité des mesures d’excitabilité des fibres motrices chez des sujets témoins sains, tenant compte de l’âge, du sexe, de l’indice de masse corporelle (IMC) et de faibles variations de la température cutanée. Nous avons examiné le nerf médian gauche chez 47 sujets témoins sains en utilisant le threshold tracking, QTRAC automatisé. Une analyse statistique de régression multiple a été utilisée pour tester la relation entre les mesures d’excitabilité nerveuse et les variables individuelles. Aucune différence significative n’a été retrouvée entre les sexes (p > 0,2 pour toutes les comparaisons). L’analyse de régression multiple a, par contre, montré que l’amplitude de la réponse motrice diminuait avec l’âge et la température, que la pente de la relation stimulus-réponse diminuait avec l’âge et l’IMC, et que la demi-vie d’accommodation diminuait avec l’âge et la température. Les variations liées aux caractéristiques démographiques des paramètres du protocole TRONDE sont faibles et moins importantes que dans les études classiques de conduction nerveuse. Nos résultats soulignent néanmoins l’importance d’un contrôle minutieux de la température et indiquent que l’interprétation de la pente de la relation stimulus-réponse ainsi que de la demi-vie d’accommodation devrait tenir compte de l’âge et de l’IMC. En revanche, le sexe n’est pas d’une grande importance pour apprécier les résultats de la méthode dite de threshold tracking appliquée aux nerfs moteurs." @default.
