- W2000898571 abstract "The interactions between acid soluble collagen and four connective tissue mucopolysaccharides: chondroitin 4-sulfate, dermatan sulfate, hyaluronic acid and keratan sulfate, have been investigated using circular dichroism spectroscopy. The effect of each polysaccharide on the denaturation (melting) behavior of calf skin collagen has been monitored, in dilute aqueous solution at pH 4. Each polysaccharide interacts with the protein, stabilizing the triple helical structure, such that the melting temperature, Tm, is increased from 38 to 46°C. However, a different proportion of each polysaccharide is necessary to achieve this effect; below this limiting ratio, biphasic melting curves are obtained with transitions at 46 and 38°C, corresponding to melting of interacting and non-interacting collagen. The results indicate that the interaction of a particular polysaccharide depends on its chemical structure and probably its chain conformation." @default.
