- W2000909941 abstract "A principle of corresponding states enunciated by Prigogine and by Hijmans is tested and used to predict the temperature and composition dependence of the following excess functions of n-alkane mixtures: VE, HE and GE. Although the principle seems not to be strictly obeyed, qualitative agreement is found between prediction and experiment. In particular, HE is positive at low temperatures for any mixture and is roughly symmetrical in mole fraction while VE is negative and more nearly symmetrical in volume fraction. For sufficiently high temperatures, HE becomes negative for all compositions, while at intermediate temperatures, HE is predicted to assume an S-shaped composition dependence being positive for low concentrations of the shorter alkane and negative for high concentrations." @default.
