Your readers may find it interesting that the recently completed Systolic Hypertension in the Elderly Program (SHEP), not published when the review was in press, showed a favorable effect in stroke incidence (the primary end point of SHEP) in this patient subset (1, 2). Although effects on white women were not included as a formal subgroup hypothesis of SHEP, this study included 2250 (47.5%) white women (3, 4).
