- W2000923204 abstract "The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the surface free energies (SFE) of 6 dental resins and the tensile bond strengths (TBS) of the resins to etched enamel. The TBS of Concise Composite (A), Concise Orthodontic Bonding Resin (B), Delton Sealant (C), Concise White Sealant (D), Prisma-Shield Sealant (E), and Helioseal Sealant (F) to enamel surfaces ground on 600 grit silicon carbide paper and etched with 50% H3PO4 for 60 s were determined. Twelve test specimens were prepared for each resin and the bond strengths expressed in MN.m−2. The SFE of the resins and enamel (G) were derived from contact angles measured with water, water / n-propanol mixtures and α-bromonaphthalene employing the concept of polar and dispersion components accounting for spreading pressures. Interfacial free energies of adhesion (ΔFadh) between the dental resins and the enamel were calculated from the SFE of the individual adherends. The mean TBS of the resins (MN.m−2) were as follows: A=15.2; B=15.6; C=13.5; D=12.5; E=9.9; F=12.1. The SFE of the individual adherends (mJ.m−2) were as follows: A=86; B=93; C=67; D=71; E=56; F=73; G=77. A linear relation (correlation coefficient=0.88) between TBS and ΔFadh was found according to: TBS (MN.m−2)=−2.09±(−0.10). ΔFadh (mJm−2). The negative slope indicates that the TBS increases as ΔFadh becomes more negative, which is in accordance with thermodynamic expectations. The results indicate the predictive capacities of surface energetic analysis of dental resins with respect to their bond strengths to etched enamel." @default.
