- W2000929215 abstract "Abstract Two cultivars and three advanced lines of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) were planted in Evesboro loamy sand soil in plasticlined steel drums in 1974. Potassium fertilizer (KCl) at 0, 56, or 223 kg/ha actual K was added to the soil and the soybean leaves and pods were evaluated for gross photosynthesis and respiration, mineral concentration, seed yield and seed quality. Disease incidence in the seed was measured. Potassium applications to the soil did not influence gross photosynthesis and dark respiration of leaves or pods. Yield was significantly increased in those plants receiving the high rate of K fertilizer. The cultivars ‘York’ and ‘Essex’ had higher yield than did the advanced lines of soybeans tested. Apparently the soil type used was not effected by the additional fertilizer K because soil tests made the following spring showed no difference in soil test K level from the check or the K supplemented treatments. Thus, disease incidence, seed quality, leaf tissue K, Mg, Ca, P and N and pod tissue N were unaffected by the supplemental amounts of K added to the soil." @default.
