- W2000983985 abstract "Centerline profiles of temperature, oxygen, carbon dioxide, C1 to C12 hydrocarbons, and soot volume fraction were measured in five methane/air coflowing non-premixed flames whose visible lengths ranged from 21 to 93 mm. The temperature and major species profiles correlated well with a nondimensional axial position obtained by normalizing the dimensional axial position with the flame length, where the flame length was defined as the distance from the fuel tube exit plane to the location of maximum centerline temperature. Flow times strongly affected the nonfuel hydrocarbon and soot profiles, preventing them from correlating with the same nondimensional axial position. However, as the flames became taller, the changes in nonfuel hydrocarbon concentrations decreased rapidly, and concentrations of linear species appeared to converge toward a common profile. Increasing soot content in the taller flames lowered their temperatures due to radiation heat losses and, possibly, caused their nonfuel hydrocarbon profiles to decrease more rapidly at the top of the pyrolysis zone due to scrubbing by the soot surface." @default.
