- W2001739002 abstract "Abstract X-band EPR measurements on spin- 1 2 double bromine-bridged quasi-one-dimensional copper dipyridine dibromide (denoted CPB) were performed in the temperature range 77–300 K. The EPR of isomorphous copper dipyridine dichloride (CPC) was also re-investigated. Principal ionic g -factors and their orientation in the crystals were determined. The EPR lineshape was Lorentzian, and the linewidth in CPB was about 25 times more than in CPC. Linewidth data for several planes of these crystals were analysed on the basis of the anisotropic exchange (a.e.) theories of McGregor and Soos and Ritter et al . The major findings were as follows: (i) in CPB the value of the a.e. parameter D e is ∼ 5 times more than in CPC, which is explained by taking into account the effects of the ligand spin-orbit coupling and the delocalization of the unpaired electron of the Cu 2+ ion; (ii) in CPB, the a.e. tensor has considerable orthorhombicity; (iii) an additional term, arising from the interplay of interchain exchange and magnetic inequivalence of Cu 2+ ions in neighbouring chains, needs to be included in the linewidth formula to give a better description of the linewidth anisotropy in the (100) planes of CPB and CPC." @default.
