- W2001810541 abstract "The ongoing transformation of the American economy has resulted in a decline in material well-being for most workers, and has brought a host of problems to communities across the country. Given these developments, a growing number of workers, labor representatives, and community leaders are advocating employee ownership of businesses as a possible means to reduce the negative consequences of this transformation. An increase in employee ownership presents both opportunities and problems for advocates of industrial democracy in America. This paper discusses some of those problems and opportunities, including the disjuncture between employee ownership and self-management, the uses and abuses of Employee Stock Ownership Plans, and the control of pension funds. The analysis concludes with several proposals to utilize employee ownership as a tool for lite advancement of industrial democracy in the United States." @default.
