- W2001844983 abstract "Abstract A multiaxial stress parameter for predicting creep rupture of metals and alloys under different loading conditions is proposed. The parameter is based on the stress redistribution associated with grain boundary sliding and is expected to be valid for alloys that exhibit grain boundary sliding and fail by cavitation of grain boundaries perpendicular to the maximum principal stress. An analysis given by Anderson and Rice is used to show that, prior to cavitation, the average tensile stress on grain boundary facets perpendicular to the maximum principal stress is approximately σ F = 2.24 σ 1 − 0.62 ( σ 2 + σ 3 ) where σ 1 > σ 2 > σ 3 are the principal stressses. We show that this quantity, called the principal facet stress, can be used to predict multiaxial creep rupture from uniaxial rupture data for several materials. Cases for which this parameter does not accurately predict multiaxial creep rupture are also discussed." @default.
