- W2002073632 abstract "Abstract Histochemical studies of the corpuscles of Stannius of Colisa lalia indicate the presence of PAS-positive substances (probably glycolipids), nucleic acids, proteins, and lipids in these structures. In addition, ultraviolet-absorbing, tetrazolium-positive substances, possibly corticosteroids, were isolated from extracts of the Stannius corpuscles. Changes in nucleolar number and in cytoplasmic ribonucleic acid content suggest the occurrence of alterations in protein-synthetic activity, whereas variations in lipid content may indicate a reciprocal relation between protein and lipid synthesis or storage in the cells. It is suggested that the Stannius corpuscles of this teleost species may have more than one function, involving synthetic, storage, and/or metabolic activities." @default.
