- W2002196003 abstract "It is possible that in mass cultivation of the myxamoebae of a cellular slime mold, Dictyostelium discoideum NC-4 either in the presence or in the absence of bacterial cells, and even in the case of bacteria-free conditions, the cells are genetically capable of forming fruiting bodies. In the growth phase of D. discoideum , different extracellular polysaccharides are produced when using two slightly different media. In the case of Medium A containing proteose-peptone, yeast extract and no bacterial cells, polysaccharide III-a, [α] D 20 +89°, is produced as extracellular main polysaccharide. This is an heterogenous glycan composed of glucose, glucuronic acid, mannose, and galactose in the relative molar ratio of of 10:4:1:1. In the case of Medium B which contains dialyzable proteose-peptone, dialyzable yeast extract, and no bacterial cells, polysaccharide V-b, [α] D 20 +3.9°, is produced. This is also heterogenous glycan composed of the same sugars as polysaccharide III-a plus galacturonic acid and glucosamine. The molar ratio is 16:2:3:4:1:1. This polysaccharide contain acid-labile linkages of glucose, galactose and mannose, and further polysaccharide V-b also contain periodate oxidation-resistant sugar residues." @default.
