- W2002471767 abstract "Light induced electrical potential differences across the liquid membrane bilayer generated from chloroplast extracts have been measured. Variation of the potential difference with wavelength and intensity of the exciting light and choice and concentrations of redox chemicals has been studied. The trends observed are in agreement with those reported on chloroplast-BLMs, lending credence to the possibility of using the liquid membrane bilayers as model system for biomembranes. The liquid membrane bilayers generated from haemoglobin, which contains a porphyrin ring in its structure, and from protoporphyrin alone have also been shown to generate the electrical potential differences by the action of light with similar trends in the data as in the case of chloroplast extract. The experiments on haemoglobin and protoporphyrin indicate that absorption of light by porphyrins may be responsible for the observed effect." @default.
