- W2002639917 abstract "Objectives: To examine the recent mortality rates of acute coronary events in the permanent residents of Beijing from 2007 to 2009. Methods: The data used in this study was from the Beijing Acute Myocardial Infarction Surveillance Platform, which was established by linking the routinely collected data from the Hospital Discharge Information System and Cause of Death Register System in Beijing. Acute coronary event was defined as primary diagnosis for myocardial infarction or underlying cause of death for coronary heart disease. Age-standardized mortality rates of acute coronary events were calculated for people aged 25 years or more. Results: Totally, 38,088 patients, who died in hospital or out of hospital, were identified among permanent residents of Beijing in the 3 years. The age-standardized mortality rates were 94.6, 96.9, and 91.5 per 100,000 people in 2007, 2008, and 2009, respectively. In each year, the mortality in male was higher than that in female (107.6/100,000 versus 75.7/100,000 people in 2009). In 2009, the mortality was highest in exurban area (121.3/100,000) and lowest in urban area (76.4/100,000). Compared to 2007, the mortality decreased by 3.3% (6.4% in female and 0.9% in male) in 2009, and the rates in 2009 decreased both in urban area and suburban area, but increased in exurban area. Similarly mortality decreased in all age groups during the 3 years, except for the age group of 35–44 and 45–54. Conclusions: Although the overall mortality of acute coronary events decreased in Beijing from 2007 to 2009, unfavorable changes were noticed in male, the younger age group, and the exurban area. Awareness of current trends may guide future efforts for health promotion and health care planning and help to determine priorities for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease." @default.
