- W2002664521 abstract "Abstract Wheat straw was homogeneously mixed with horse urine (5.75 g N l −1 , 16.88 atom-% 15 N excess) and stored in airtight plastic containers for 6 months. Untreated or urine treated straw plus concentrate was each administrated to three rumen fistulated sheep and goats. Untreated and urine treated straw administered in nylon bags was incubated in the rumen of sheep and goats for 1, 3, 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 h. A three compartment exponential function was used to fit the measurements of 15 N enrichment and of amounts of N, 15 N and dry matter of bag contents. The inflow and outflow of 15 N into or out of the bags and the binding of urine N was calculated from the calculated partial and total Y -values of the three compartments. Up to 1 and 3 h after incubation, about 82% and 96% of 15 N of urine treated straw disappeared from the nylon bag. Only 2–7% of urine N was bound more solidly to the straw during storage. In contrast to the dry matter content of the nylon bags, which decreased continuously, the amount of 15 N increased slightly after an initial minimum and then decreased in most cases following 36 h of incubation. It was concluded that this inflow of 15 N into the nylon bag may partially occur by active transport via microbes. There were no significant differences between species." @default.
